Cynthia du Bois
Plein Air Oil painting
About the Artist:
Cynthia du Bois works in plein air. Her style evokes an awareness of both Realism and Impressionism. Her palette application reflects a sense of restraint that she uses to describe the intangible soulfulness of the scenes in front of her, whether a quiet village street or a landscape at dawn. Her work represents a vision of Mexico and California through an emotional lens — the discovery and love of the land and the richness of life in both countries. She is influenced by the great impressionists Cézanne and Manet, also Matt Smith, Scott Christensen and the late Richard Schmid, among others.
She has had major exhibitions at Bergamot Station in Los Angeles, in San Miguel de Allende and Ajijic. She is a member of the Lake Chapala Fine Artists Guild and the Ajijic Society of Art. She is a member of the Allied Artists of the Santa Monica Mountains and Seashore. Her work is currently being exhibited in Ajijic at Bella Vida and the new Ajijic Museo de Arte.
